SAT/ACT Combined Prep Course

Our combined course provides students with a comprehensive review of concepts, test-taking approaches, and focused sets of practice questions. Students can increase their understanding of the SAT and ACT through detailed descriptions and review of the math, critical reading, and writing sections of each test. All courses are taught by PUSD high school math and English teachers who have been trained and certificated by the College Board. Small class sizes allow instructors to maximize individual attention.

Writing

Students are provided with intensive study of the essay requirements for both the SAT and ACT and are prepared for the pressure of a timed writing assessment. Students are given practice essay prompts and are guided through the process of developing a coherent, focused essay within a fixed time limit.  They are taught the best strategies for maximizing their scores on the assessment rubrics.  Our prep course emphasizes reading, analysis, and writing skills; requiring students to analyze a source document and explain how the author builds an argument.

Reading

Students are given instruction, practice tests, and strategies for improving their performance on this section which includes sentence completion and passage-based reading assessments. Our curriculum focuses on the understanding of passages from U.S. and World Literature, History/Social Studies, and Sciences.

Math

The math section of the course is taught by teachers holding advanced degrees in mathematics and credentials for teaching all levels of high school mathematics.  Teachers have created a unique curriculum proven to help students maximize their scores on the new SAT and ACT tests. The course includes a concentrated focus on areas emphasized on both tests: problem-solving and data analysis, elementary and intermediate algebra, coordinate and plane geometry, and trigonometry.
